Andrew J. "AJ" Heritage Jr. died peacefully on December 31, 2023 at the Sansing VA Foster Home in Sapps, AL at the age of 95.  AJ was a faithful member of the West End Baptist Church in Aliceville and his funeral services will be there Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jim Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.  Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the church.
AJ was born on October 4, 1928 in Shuqualak, Mississippi to the late Andrew and Mable Heritage. He is preceded in death by brothers, John Heritage (Jeannette) and James Heritage and sisters, Ellen Lashley, Clara Harris (Hugh) and Sarah Reece.
AJ was married to the late Irene Driver Heritage, and is survived by two sons, Johnny Heritage (Libby) and Glenn Heritage (Ann Margaret); four grandchildren, Christopher Heritage, Mary Catherine Townsend (Grant), Asia Criswell (Jason) and Skyler Condra (Mary Catherine); nine great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Billy Joe Reece (Sharlotte) and James Lashley and sister-in-law, Faye Heritage.
After graduating from Aliceville High School, AJ joined the U.S. Army and retired from the Alabama National Guard as a Colonel, having served 36 years.  After leaving the Army in 1952 he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in Aliceville AL and retired in 1994 after serving the last seventeen years as Postmaster
Pallbearers will be Christopher Heritage, Brent Lashley, Dwight Blakeney, Gordon McGlawn, Skyler Condra and Kenny Gibson.
Honorary Pallbearers are Tammy Kent and the outstanding staff of the Sansing VA Foster Home.
