GORDO - Agnes I. (Criswell) Duren, of Gordo, most recently residing in Virginia in the care of her son and his family, passed away on January 5, 2018 at the age of 85. Rev. Michael Trull will officiate the service at Skelton Funeral Home's Chapel located in Reform, Alabama at 11 a.m., Saturday January 13, 2018. Her body will lie in state 45 minutes prior to the service in the chapel.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles Duren Sr.; her parents, Laura and Ossie Criswell; and her brother, James Criswell.
Survivors include her son, Charles Duren Jr., his wife, Dana, three grandchildren, Danielle Tiller, Devin Duren and Charles Duren III; and one great-granddaughter, Grace Tiller.
Agnes, known by many of her family as Ina, was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on June 3, 1932. Agnes married Charles Duren Sr. on September 19, 1959. Charles was in the United States Air Force and Agnes followed him to multiple duty assignments to include Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi, and Kincheloe Air Force Base in northern Michigan. After his retirement from the Air Force, they returned to Alabama where she became a Teacher's Assistant at Gordo Elementary School. Agnes dearly loved serving the children at Gordo Elementary.
Agnes was an avid arts and crafts hobbyist who created award winning ceramic works of art, beautiful natural landscape and still paintings, and intricate and personalized embroideries for friends and family. She had a giving heart and was a follower of Christ.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Criswell, Andy Criswell, Charles Duren III, Tony Elmore, Mike Driver and Wayne Cooper.
