Obituary

REFORM | Allison Towers Wilson, known as Al, age 88, of Reform, passed away at home on July 28, 2015. Graveside services will be 6 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Graham Memorial Cemetery with Bro. Tim Meherg presiding and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Calley Wilson; parents, Burgess Audie and Mittie Dell Graham Wilson; step-mother, Lillie Gin Wilson; sister, Christine Guntharp; brother, Bill Wilson; and son-in-law, Thomas Noland.Survivors include his daughters, Linda Noland and Wanda Moss; son-in-law, Malcolm Moss; grandsons, Brannon Moss (Lisa) and Zach Noland; three great-grandsons, Justin, Evan and Chase; sister Lydia McGahey of Columbus, Miss.; and several nieces and nephews. Al was born in the Fairview community near Fulton, Miss. on August 4, 1926. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a crew member on board the USS Halsey Powell and was present in Tokyo Bay for the formal Japanese surrender on September 2, 1945. He was proud of his service to his country and was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post. Al never failed to remember those close to him who had served their country in the military. As long as his health allowed, he placed American flags at their grave markers each year on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Al was a member of the First Baptist Church of Reform, Ala. for sixty-five years. He was employed by Sonat for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching plants grow and sharing the bounty of his crop with family and friends. In recent years, he was a caregiver to his beloved wife.The family would like to thank everyone for the acts of kindness shown to him and his family. We appreciate Bro. Tim Meherg, Nellie Fields, Sara Manning and Henry and Gypsy Helmers for their frequent visits. We extend thanks to his caregivers for their unconditional love and care over the years and to others who dropped by to visit when his days seemed so long. The family would like to thank Amedisys, Amedisys Hospice, Caring Hands of Reform for their health services, and the many doctors and staff who managed his care, especially Dr. Scott Fulgham and Dr. Warren Holley. Your warm smiles, understanding hearts, and expertise were always welcomed.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 100, Reform, AL 35481 or Free Will Baptist Children's Home, 86 Academy Drive, Eldridge, AL 35554 or to one's favorite charity.
