GORDO – Albert Verner Elmore, Sr., age 91, of Gordo, Ala., died October 30, 2017, at Northport Medical Center. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Gordo First Baptist Church with Rev. Al Elmore and Eddie Elmore officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately after the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Dennis ""Denny"" Elmore; his parents; infant twin sisters; infant brother; sister, Maudine Lawson; and brothers, Bernard Elmore, J. T. Elmore, Hayes Elmore and Doug Elmore.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Ray Elmore of Gordo, Ala.; daughter, Melanie Elmore Gray (Jeff) of Northport, Ala.; sons, Gary Elmore (Lee) of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mike Elmore (Debbie) of Northport, Ala., Doug Elmore (Cathy) of Lexington, Ky., Al Elmore (Lori) of Lima, Ohio and Eddie Elmore (Lisa) of Ralph, Ala.; brothers, Joe Elmore (Daryle), George Elmore (Carol) and Larry Elmore (Marty); eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Elmore was born September 20, 1926 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Archie Lee Elmore and Vera Bridges Elmore. He was a member of Gordo First Baptist Church and a retired machinist for Westinghouse. Verner was a United States Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and a lifelong resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Bennett Elmore, Dylan Elmore, Jared Gray, Andrew Elmore, Tyler Lee and Austin Ray.
Honorary pallbearers are Ed Winston, Gerald Hall, Frank Elmore, the Senior Adult Sunday School Class, Joe Brown and his Domino buddies.
