Obituary

TUSCALOOSA – Andrew Cox Wade, Sr. age 79, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Destin, Fla., died February 2, 2017, at Hospice of West Alabama. A memorial service will be held at Reform First United Methodist Church Sunday, February 5, 2017, at 3 p.m. after a private graveside service with Rev. Alan Head and Rev. Dan Kilgore officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will follow the memorial service at the church.He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Gerry Campbell Wade; his daughters, Donna Wade Cornelius (Kirk) of Tuscaloosa and Carol Wade McKinzey (Bill) of Aliceville; son, Andrew Cox Wade, Jr. (Ashley) of Tuscaloosa; seven grandchildren, Jeffery Kirk Cornelius, Jr. (Meg), Andrew Wade Cornelius, Caroline McKinzey Wright (Josh), Katherine Anne McKinzey, Andrew Cox Wade III, William Pate Wade and Mary Ashley Wade; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Wade Cornelius; stepmother, Charlena Wade; sister, Mary Wade Price; brothers, Charlie Wade and Joe Wade; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Carole Campbell; and nieces, nephews and cousins.Mr. Wade was born in Linden and at an early age moved to Reform with his parents, John Love Wade and Mabel Cox Wade. He was a graduate of Pickens County High School, the University of Alabama and the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University. He also served in the United States Army.After beginning his career in banking as a bank examiner, Mr. Wade joined the Bank of Reform, founded in 1944 by his father and Reform Rotary Club members, and went on to become its president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board before he retired. Under his leadership, the renamed West Alabama Bank grew to include 14 locations throughout West Alabama. At the time of his death, Mr. Wade was chairman of the West Alabama Capital Corp.He was a member of Reform First United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees and administrative board for many years. He was president of the Alabama Bankers Association and in 2009 was named to the ABA's Half Century Club. He received the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts of America. He was president of the Reform Rotary Club and was a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. He was a founding board member of Pickens Academy in Carrollton, a Reform Town Council member, Pickens County Industrial Development Authority chairman, Pickens County Cattlemen's Association president, Reform Area Chamber of Commerce president, and a member of the Stillman College board of trustees.Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kirk Cornelius Jr., Wade Cornelius, Andrew Wade and Will Wade; his nephew, Jeffrey Campbell; and his grandson-in-law, Josh Wright. Honorary pallbearers are members of West Alabama Bank's board of directors.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reform First United Methodist Church, 807 3rd Street NE, Reform, AL 35481.
