TUSCALOOSA | Anna Sentell McMilian, age 83, of Tuscaloosa, formerly of Reform and Millport, died May 29, 2015, at Heritage Health Care and Rehab. Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, with Rev. Mike Hall officiating, and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform, directing. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to and after services at the Skelton funeral home Chapel
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold McMilian; her parents, John L. Sentell and Clarabelle Lowe Sentell Carraway; sister, Mary Evelyn Kelly; brothers, Billy Joe Sentell and Jim Sentell; Survivors include: daughters, Patricia Ann Svedahl (Milton), of Seattle, Washington and Deborah Cameron (Ron), of Millport; son, Anthony Harold McMilan (Brandy), of Beaumont, Texas; sister, Alice Faye Maughan, of Reform; and grandchildren, Jacob Cameron, Luke Cameron, Marissa McMilian, and Tori McMilian; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McMilian was born September 26, 1931 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late John L. Sentell and Clarabelle Lowe Sentell Carraway. After graduating high school, she attended secretarial school in Birmingham, Alabama. Upon graduating she enlisted in the Women's Army Corp as a stenographer. Anna was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas where she met her future husband, Harold. They were married June 20, 1952. Over the next 25 years, Anna, Harold, and their children were stationed in cities around the world, where she was able and enjoyed to be a stay at home mom.
After Harold retired they moved to Orlando, Florida where she volunteered at a hospital. During this time she also obtained her real estate license. Wanting to get closer to her family, they purchased the Dairy Queen in Reform, Alabama. They ran the Dairy Queen together until 1995 when Harold passed away. Anna continued to run it by herself for several more years. Upon the desire to spend more time with her grandchildren she eventually sold it. Mrs. McMilian enjoyed retirement and traveling all over the country with various family members. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Reform.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Cameron, Luke Cameron, Gene Worrell, William Ashmore, Huley Wheat, Ben Grayson and Bruce Maughan.
Honorary pallbearers are nurses and staff of Heritage Health Care.
