Obituary

REFORM - Ben Simpson, age 82, of Reform, Ala., passed away May 11, 2018 at his home. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2018, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joey Lucas and Rev. Jack House officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2018, at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, J.T. Simpson, Jr. and Kent Simpson; and sisters, Ruby Ryan and Joan Caston.
Survivors include his wife, Carole Seymer Simpson of Reform, Ala.; daughter, Melissa Simpson of Gordo, Ala.; sons, Keith Simpson (Susie) and Heath Simpson (Danielle) all of Columbus, Miss.; sister, Jane Oliver of Reform, Ala.; sister-in-law, Rosa Simpson; seven grandchildren, Alysann, Tiffany, Breelyn, Kaitlyn, Parker, Rick and Morgan; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah and Oliver.
Ben was born October 24, 1935 in Pickens County, Alabama to the late John T. Simpson, Sr. and Gertrude Jennings Simpson. He was a member of Stansel Baptist Church where he was Chairman of Deacons for 40 years and a retired maintenance foreman at Omnova in Columbus, Miss. with 33 years of service. Ben was a veteran of the United States Army , serving in Korea for thirteen months.
Ben loved life. He was a hard worker, never being still. He loved his church and church family. He loved his children, but most of all, he loved his grandchildren. He couldn't wait to see them and he had nicknames for all of them. Ben's past-time was working on four-wheelers and boats. He could put them together with his eyes closed.
Most of all, Ben lived a Christian life. He set examples for a lot of people, young and old.
Pallbearers will be Chuck McDaniel, Ken Simpson, Michael Davis, Andy Glenn, Kenny Cowart, Randy Simpson, Norman Hall, and Josh Simpson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Byars, Johnny Noland, Ricky Findley, Dale McCafferty, Earl Spain, Daniel Oglesby, and members of Stansel Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404 or Stansel Baptist Church, PO Box 430, Reform, AL 35481.
