GORDO – Berle Dean Hollingsworth, age 93, of Gordo, Ala., died April 1, 2017, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Judy Elmore officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior and immediately following the service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice "Cricket" Lloyd Hollingsworth; two brothers, Avedis and Bardell Hollingsworth; granddaughter, Kari Cliett; great-granddaughter, Caitlan Hollingsworth; and two great-grandsons, Hayden and Chase Quarles.
Survivors include his daughter, Collette H. Mitchell and husband, Mitch; son, Michael Hollingsworth and wife, Gail; grandchildren, Rachel Chapman (Wes), Ben Hollingsworth (Rachel), Sam Mitchell (Katie) and Hope Simmons (Ryan); grandson-in-law, Richard Cliett; great-grandchildren, Aisley Chapman, Thomas Chapman, Hunter Quarles, Rylan Kate Simmons, Brody Dickerson, Ella Mitchell and Collins Mitchell; and special friend, Gennie Hixson.
Berle was born September 19, 1923 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Zollie and Noma Harless Hollingsworth. He was a member of Hargrove United Methodist Church, a retired employee of BF Goodrich with 32 years of service, owner of the former Gordo Flower Shop, a member of the Gordo Masonic Lodge and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
Pallbearers will be Ben Hollingsworth, Wes Chapman, Sam Mitchell, Ryan Simmons, Andy Guy and David Guy.
Honorary pallbearers are Greg Hamrick and staff of Hamrick Highlands Assisted Living and members of the Gordo Masonic Lodge.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
