Obituary

ANOLA – Bertha Garren Rittenberry, age 96, of Panola, Ala., died January 7, 2018, at her residence. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Panola United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Tim Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Rittenberry; her parents; her sister, Nellie Reeves; and brothers, Russell Garren and Edward Garren.
Survivors include her daughters, Janet Pritchett (Bobby), Joy Rittenberry and Judith Rittenberry; sisters, Fanny Lue Sisk, Thelma Shrader and Iretha Patterson; brothers, Richard Garren, Carl Garren and Ray Garren; two grandchildren, Kristy Pritchett and Susan Peavy (Blair); and one great-grandchild, Lauren Peavy.
Bertha was born August 30, 1921 in Alabama to the late Marvin Garren and Martha Molissie Shrader Garren. She was a member of Panola United Methodist Church and very active in the community.
Bertha was a retired co-owner, along with her husband, of a general merchandise store in Panola for 51 years.
Pallbearers will be Jeff McClure, Keith McClure, Justin Bryan, Larry Gibson, Rusty George and Terry Fields.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Panola United Methodist Church and James Ivin Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Panola United Methodist Church, 5777 County Road 35, Panola, AL, 35477 or the Panola Cemetery Fund.
