Obituary

REFORM | Mrs. Betty Mae Shelton Dean, age 83, of Reform, Ala. passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at her home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 12 at Arbor Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Shelton officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John B Dean and her parents, Jackson L. Shelton and Ina Wilkins Shelton.She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Sheppard (Robert); sons, John B Dean Jr. (Kathy), Jimmy Earl Dean (Pam), grandchildren, Lucas Dean (Vanessa), Dustin Sheppard (Erin), Holly Gibbs (Jeremy), Jessica Collins (Clifton), Molly Field (Jared) and April Tolbert (Paul); great- grandchildren, Travis and Elyse Dean, Koleigh Collins, Jala Kate Gibbs, Mandie Isler, Mylissa Lloyd, Stephen, Caleb and Noah Tolbert, Callie Field and Hunter Sheppard; sisters, Nadine Dean (Bruce) and Inell McGee, brother, Bobby (Martha), and sister-in-law Evelyn Shelton.Mrs. Dean was born November 17, 1930 the 10th of 12 children. Eight of her siblings have preceded her in death, sisters Berteen Edwards, Mozzelle Langston and Edna Plyman, brothers Joe, Rufus, Alvin, Eugene and Roland.Mrs. Dean lived her entire life in Reform, Alabama having attended Arbor Springs Baptist Church for all of her 83 years. She was a retired professional seamstress having worked at Wolverine Hat and Cap Factory and Stevens Fashion. She loved to read, crochet, bird watch and lovingly made elaborate Christmas stockings for her entire family. She loved God, her children, her grandchildren and the added blessing of great-grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Lucas Dean, Dustin Sheppard, Paul Tolbert, Clifton Collins, Jeremy Gibbs, Jared Field and Travis Dean.Special thanks go to sitters Brenda Parker and Frances Shelton and to Hospice of West Alabama and to special friend and sister-in-law Martha Shelton.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Arbor Springs Baptist Church, P.O. 879, Reform, AL 35481 or Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Rd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
