Betty Rowell Shuttlesworth, age 83, of Coker, AL died January 9, 2019 at DCH Regional
Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Big Sandy Baptist
Church in Tuscaloosa with Brother Joe Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery
with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately
following the service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Shuttlesworth; her parents; son-in-law, Ray
Vaughn; three sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include her daughters, Cheryl Vaughn, Sandra Spade, Rhonda Freeman (David),
Kerri Christian (Charley Williams) and Paige Surber; a granddaughter whom she raised, Heather
Shuttlesworth (Kim); twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Betty was born June 18, 1935 in Guin, Alabama to the late Dean Albert Rowell and Bessie
Lee Bobo Rowell. She was a member of Big Sandy Baptist Church and a retired employee of
Northport Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be David Mills, David DuBose, Jimmy Dunn, Keith Davis, Jimmy Green
and Kent Gidley.
Honorary Pallbearers Dr. Larry Skelton, friends of the Big Sandy community, Fayette County
High School Class of 1954 and University of Alabama Custodial Services.
