GORDO | Billie Joyce Sanders, age 70, of Gordo, Ala., died August 28, 2015, at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. She was born December 16, 1944 in Gordo, Ala. and was a well-known and much loved resident of Gordo. She touched many lives as a long time employee of the Pickens County School System, working as a secretary, school lunchroom manager, school bus driver and a substitute teacher after her retirement. She was also an active member of Gordo First Baptist and loved her church family and treasured her relationship with the Lord and was ever growing in her faith. Joyce married Bobby Joe Sanders in 1965 and they were blessed with two children, Roger Sanders and Shanie Crews (Randall), and five grandchildren: Carson Sanders, Dakota Crews (deceased), Trace Crews, Makenna Crews and Jadyn Crews. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she loved nothing more than spending time with them.Joyce is preceded in death by her father, Billy Nelson Elmore; stepfather, Jessie Alonzo Smith, Jr.; brother, Dennis Wayne Elmore; and grandson, Dakota Richard Crews.Along with her husband, Bobby Joe and children, Roger and Shanie, she is survived by her mother, Ruby Elmore Smith; sister Marilyn Kay Elmore (Lewis); and her four grandchildren.Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Gordo First BaptistChurch with Brother David Singleton and Brother Louis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the church.Pallbearers are Kevin Sanders, Kevin Campbell, Kris Sanders, Jeff Campbell, Neil Daniels and James Tilley.Honorary pallbearers are staff of DCH Regional Medical Center EmergencyDepartment, Dr. John Miller, Dr. Scott Fulgham, staff of DCH Regional NICU, Freddie and Jane Smith, staff of Cheeky's Restaurant and members of Gordo First Baptist Church.
