Obituary

Barbara Ann "Bobbie" Pate, age 85, of Gordo, AL, peacefully entered Heaven on April 17, 2025, at DCH Regional Medical Center. A Celebration of Bobbie's life will be held at 2:00 on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, with Bobby Boothe officiating at the Skelton Funeral Home Chapel in Reform. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service (1:00). A private family burial at Center Springs will follow.

Bobbie was born on July 19, 1939, in Columbus, Mississippi, to the late Johnny and Marietta (Whaley) Johnson. She was a graduate of Pickens County High School and was employed by Westinghouse and Gordo Elementary School. A loving and incredibly funny wife, mother, and grandmother, Bobbie brought love and laughter to all who knew her. She never met an animal she did not like and thought each flower she saw was more beautiful than the last. Although she valiantly fought crippling rheumatoid arthritis for the last thirty-five years, she was one who believed in writing her troubles in sand and carving her blessings in stone. She lived joyfully, and we rejoice in knowing she is forever free from pain.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years and true love of her life, Jack Pate; son, Jay Pate; daughter, Susan (Bill) Estes; step-grandson, Jason (Alisa) Estes; step-granddaughter, Christy Wright; great-grandsons, Tanner Estes and Rylan Lemley; great-granddaughters, Taylor Estes, Skyla (Jordan) McCrackin, and Emry Wright; and great-great-granddaughter, Baylor Scott McCrackin; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in Glory by her parents; sisters, Charlene Johnson and Lynn Duke; and granddaughter, Libby Hankins.

Honorary pallbearers are her church family at Elmore Center United Methodist Church; former students and coworkers at Gordo Elementary School; Dr. Scott Fulgham; Dr. Richard Jones and staff of the Clinic for Rheumatic Diseases; Emma Shaw, Jane Alexander, Jenny Martin, Kim Colvin, and Bernice Hewitt, and Tim Holder of Hospice of West Alabama who faithfully and lovingly cared for her.

In Bobbie's memory, donations may be made to the Live Like Libby Love Like Libby Foundation in care of Libby Foundation, 1486 County Road 21, Gordo, AL  35466.
