Obituary

PELL CITY, Ala. | Burton Davis ""Tom"" Hines, age 86, of Pell City, Ala., formerly of Aliceville, died March 14, 2015, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Aliceville First Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Potts, Rev. Philip Burden and Jeff Mason officiating and visitation prior to services beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Garden Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Harvey Lee Hines Jr. (Ju-Louise), and his sister, Mary Sue Mason (Aubrey).He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie Bundy Hines; one son, Lynn Earl Leatherwood (Lisa); three daughters, Gwen Windle, Teresa McLarty (Brent), Lori Junkins (John); nine grandchildren, Lauren Townsend, Clay Craft, John Hunter Craft, Catherine Leatherwood, Taylor Leatherwood, Brittany White, Katheryn Adam, Jake Junkins, and Amelia Junkins; three great-grandchildren, Alexandra Townsend, Ty Townsend, and Roman White; and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mr. Hines was born on June 20, 1928, in Aliceville, Alabama, to Harvey Lee Hines Sr. and Nannie Henders Hines. He graduated from Aliceville High School and earned his degree in business administration from the University of Oregon, where he played tailback for the Oregon Ducks. After college, he spent two years in the United States Army's 707th AAA Gun Battalion during the Korean War, and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. After military service, he went to work for Westinghouse Corporation in Reform, Alabama, where he spent most of his working career. He was one of the first employees at the plant when it opened and one of the last to leave when the plant closed. Mr. Hines was a member of Gideons International, served many years as a deacon of Aliceville First Baptist Church, served on the Board of Trustees for Pickens Academy and the Aliceville Water Works Board. Honorary Pallbearers are Ted Ezelle, Jeff Mason, Raymond Hines, Clay Craft, John Hunter Craft, Brent McLarty, John Junkins, J.T. Junkins, Burdett McKinstry, members of Cropwell Baptist Church and deacons of Aliceville First Baptist Church.
