ALICEVILLE | Calvin Frederick Duncan, age 90, of Aliceville, died January 23, 2015, at Arbor Woods Nursing Home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Aliceville with Rev. Charlie Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Billy Joe Duncan; sisters, Hilda Beasley and Helen Miles; and brother, Billy Duncan.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary Jane Montgomery Duncan; son, Calvin Lee Duncan (Cheryl); granddaughters, Amanda Soong (Peily), Sara Thompson (Craig), and Rachel Wells (Brian); great-grandchildren, Libby and Oliver Soong, Elliot Thompson and John Wells; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Calvin Frederick Duncan was born July 4, 1924 in Tupelo, Mississippi to the late Oscar Milton Duncan and Annie Pearl Young Duncan. Calvin served his country bravely in World War II earning a purple heart. Following his time in the service, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years.
Great appreciation is felt for the loving care provided by Floree and Clay Sansing and their staff at Sansing VA Foster Home, to the staff of Senior Care at Pickens County Hospital, and the many staff members of Arbor Woods.
Pallbearers will be Cecil Roberson, Ray Dillard, Ronnie Cochran, Butch Shelton, Jake Shelton, Matthew Shinkle and Nathan Shinkle.
Honorary pallbearers are The Sojourners Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church, Linda and Gene Tilley, Faye and Morris Tilley, Sharon and Ted Ezelle and John Russell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church of Aliceville, 323 Broad Street, Aliceville, AL 35442.
