STEENS, MISS. – Carolyn Virginia Acker Ponds, age 65, of Steens, Miss., passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018, at her residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Dean and Rev. Ed Nabors officiating. Burial will follow in Ethelsville Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Daniel Parker Ponds of Steens, Miss.; one beloved daughter, Amy Ponds Johnson and her husband, Tony of Millport, Ala.; two grandchildren, Tyler and Amber Johnson; sister, Diane Carter (Tommy); and two brothers, Ronald Acker (Vivian) and Greg Acker.
Carolyn was born September 28, 1952 in Carrollton, Alabama to the late James Edgar Acker and Doris Virginia Smith Acker. She was a longtime resident of Ethelsville, Alabama before moving to Steens, Mississippi.
Carolyn drove a school bus for the Pickens County Board of Education for over 15 years and also worked as a nurse's aide. Caroline had a compassionate heart for others and was known for expressing her love for special education and encouraging the students who loved her as well.
Carolyn was a member of Ethelsville Church of God and she loved the Lord with all of her heart. She will be dearly missed by all, but she is no longer suffering. The family takes comfort in this, and in the Lord.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Bradley, Randy Dobbins, Terry Dobbins, Michael Thomas, Marty Richardson and Tommy Carter.
