Martha Catherine Shirley, age 99, of Gordo, AL passed away October 25, 2022 at her residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, October 28, 2022 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Damon Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will follow the service at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert Lee Shirley; her parents; son-in-law, Bob Kee; sisters, Ola Bell Smith, Mary Edna Robinson and Tootsie Ayers and brothers, Floyd Mullenix, Hubert Mullenix and Cliff Mullenix.
Survivors include her daughters, Gypsy Kee, Janice Quimby (Truman) and Elaine Elmore (Ricky); her sons, Kenneth Shirley (Peggy) and Tommy Shirley (Sherry); brothers, Fred "Brother" Mullenix and Searcy Mullenix; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Catherine was born January 17, 1923 in Gordo, Alabama to the late John Mullenix and Effie Mae Findley Mullenix. She was a homemaker and a member of Elmore Center United Methodist Church. Catherine loved attending church at Sand Springs or Elmore Center and singing in the choir, especially the Christmas Cantatas. She was the matriarch of our family and will certainly be missed.
