CARROLLTON | Clara R. Cantrell, age 87, of Carrollton, died July 14, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Carrollton Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Winders officiating. Burial will follow in Carrollton City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Lee Cantrell of Carrollton, Ala.; son, James Alvin Blakney (Gail) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; granddaughter, Jessica; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Clara was born January 18, 1927 in Benevola, Alabama to the late Jim Thomas and Bessie Holmes Thomas. A well known resident of Pickens County, she was a member of Carrollton Baptist Church, a retired seamstress and factory worker and former Director of the Carrollton Senior Citizens Center.
