ETHELSVILLE | Clarence Whitten, Jr., age 84, of Ethelsville, died January 21, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014, at Forest Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jean Cook Whitten; his parents; sisters, Louise Bradshaw and Corrine Jaynes; brothers, Carter Whitten, Troy Whitten, Sr., Calvin Whitten, James Whitten, Dewitt Whitten, and Shaden Whitten.
Survivors include his daughters, Clarice Herron of Ethelsville, Ala. and Glenda (Larry) Burns of Columbus, Miss.; sons, Mike (Mary) Whitten, Steven (Donna) Whitten and Gary (Linda) Whitten, all of Ethelsville, Ala.; sisters, Mary Powell of Reform, Ala. and Blanche Taylor of Ethelsville, Ala.; brother, Virgil (Louise) Whitten of Gordo, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Mae Whitten of Columbus, Miss., Ruth Whitten of Ethelsville, Ala., and Dorothy Swedenburg of Ethelsville, Ala.; five grandchildren, Christy (William) Bouchillon, Shannon (Wade) Hampton, Ashley Herron, Brent (Ashley) Burns and Shane Burns; three great-grandchildren, Shay Cockrell, Zakary Hampton and Gabriel Herron; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Whitten was born April 28, 1929 in Ethelsville, Alabama to the late Clarence Whitten, Sr. and Alice Brownlee Whitten. He was a retired employee of Monroe Tufline Mfg. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle, gardening and fishing.
Pallbearers will be Ashley Herron, Brent Burns, Wade Hampton, William Bouchillon, Shay Cockrell, Shane Burns, and Zakary Hampton.
