CARROLLTON | Clayton C. "Booty" Cox, Jr., age 89, of Carrollton, died April 24, 2014, at Pickens Co. Medical Center. A private graveside service will be held at Carrollton City Cemetery with Rev. Tom Hammons and Rev. Tommy Winders officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Carrollton Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Marie Shaw Cox; his parents, Clayton C. Cox, Sr. and Evelyn Cox; his sister, Mary Cox Sims (Joe); and his brothers, John B. Cox (Jeanine) and Pat Cox.Survivors include his daughter, Carolyn Durel (Stephen); sons, Keith W. Cox, Mike Cox (Amy) and David Cox (Ginny); sister, Frances Jones (Allen); grandchildren, Grace Cox, Wes Cox, Steven Cox (Melissa), Brian Cox, Clay Arnold (Katey) and Dina Durel; great-granddaughter, Caroline Cox; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Cox.Mr. Booty, as he was known to all, was a native and life long resident of Carrollton, Ala. He served in World War II as a flight officer with the U.S. Army Air Corp in Pearl Harbor and the Philippines. He graduated from the University of Alabama where he met the love of his life. Mr. Booty was a member of Carrollton Baptist Church and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He served on numerous boards including the Pickens County Water Authority Board in Carrollton and was a former city councilman. He was a volunteer fire fighter and one of the founding families of Pickens Academy. His sense of humor and generosity, as well as his tomatoes, will be remembered by many.Honorary pallbearers are Cooter Duncan, Pickens Co. Water Authority Board, Butch and Rita McCafferty, Steve McBride, John Cary Alexander, Dr. Honea, Dr. Parker and the nurses and staff at Pickens Co. Medical Center.
