DesMarie Porter, age 80, of Gordo, AL passed away March 14, 2024 at her residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with President Robert Lewis and President Barry Sadler officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Larry Porter; her parents and son-in-law, Tim Foster.
Survivors include her daughters, Desirae Foster of Gordo and LaDawn Nevel (Kerry) of Reform; son, Duane Porter (Bobbie) of Gordo; sister, Betty Ann Platt of Northport; brother, Bill Platt (Mary) of Anaheim Hills, CA; six grandchildren, Daniel Porter (Danielle), Colby Porter (Madison), Lilly Porter, Heidi Porter, Tasha Reyes (Danny) and Steven Foster (Juan); three great-grandchildren, Rhett Walker, Christopher Brown and Bonita Reyes and special friend, Katie Porter.
DesMarie was born April 25, 1943 in Los Angeles, California to the late William Raymond Platt and June Caroline Robinson Platt. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a retired substitute teacher for Pickens County School System. Pallbearers will be Steve Holiday, Nathan Culmer, Jason Stevens, Glendon Junkin, Perry Herring and John Yarbrough. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Kamal and staff, Dr. Debell and staff, and the Gordo and Zion volunteer fire department. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
