ALICEVILLE | Dessie Ree Wheat Espey Wilson, age 100, of Aliceville, died November 13, 2014, at Southern Oaks Assisted Living in Demopolis, Alabama. Services were held 3 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2014, at Dogwood Chapel. Rev. Atchison officiated. Burial followed in Carrollton City Cemetery. Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directed.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Zuella W. Espey; second husband, Lundy Wilson; daughter, Virginia E. Noland James; son, Otis Espey; three brothers; five sisters; and two grandchildren, William Lee Noland and Pete Noland.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean E. Sobley (Charles) of Columbus, Miss.; brother, Joe Espey of Aliceville, Ala.; grandchildren, Wanda Fuqua, Yulonda Noland, Bill Noland (Lisa) Greg Espey (Michelle), Kim Hunt (Greg), Jonathan Sobley and Michelle Hawthorne (Eddie); ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Dessie was born October 9, 1914 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama to the late Henry L. Wheat and Lela Homan Wheat. She was a member of Aliceville First Baptist Church, a retired employee of Huyck Felt Company and a well-known resident of Aliceville.
