GORDO | Dixie F. Sanders, age 74, of Gordo, died June 18, 2015, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Louis Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Doris Sanders Strange.Survivors include her cousin who was more like a sister and her best friend, Annie "Susie" Sanders; daughter, Virginia "Gina" Sanders; nieces, Jennifer "Jenny" Collins (Harry), Tracy Rosnes and Patti Beggs; great-nephew, Spencer Rosnes; special cousin, Loretta Fuller; cousins, Larry Sanders and Rene Pinto; and her very best friends and "Partners in Crime", Patsy Hickman, Jean Bailey, Ruby King and Sibbie Pate.Dixie was born May 12, 1941 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Warren Abston Sanders and Virginia Abrams Sanders. She was a member of Gordo First Baptist Church, a retired teacher for the Gwennette County Public School System in Georgia with over 30 years of service and a well-known resident of the Pickens County.Pallbearers will be Harry Collins, Gary Sullivan, Mitchell Sanders, Olan Clay, Larry Sanders, Denny Hickman and Randall Pate.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
