TUSCALOOSA | Doris "Dot" Mills Nelson, age 84, of Tuscaloosa, went home to be with the Lord, May 20, 2014. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Rev. Gary Youngblood and Rev. Drew Dockery officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. A visitation to celebrate her life will be tonight, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Nelson; her parents, Robert C. Mills and Berniece Rushing Mills; two sisters, Marjorie Hopkins and Bobbie Trammell; three brothers, Robert Mills, Melvin (Beshie) Mills and George (Pete) Mills.
Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Nelson McMillan (Ken) of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Sandra Partrich (Dan) of Roswell, Ga.; sons, Robert Steven Nelson (Laura) and James Davis Nelson, Jr., both of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Nash (Lynn), Kimberly McMillan, Matthew Partrich (Ashley), Robert Nelson, Jr. and Rachel Nelson; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Ashlyn Nash; a number of nieces and nephews; and honorary family members Michael Miller, Gibb Tannehill, Pat Marston, Liz Marston and Emily and Sara Dykes.
Dot was born January 16, 1930 in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. She worked for many years as a hairdresser and was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Not only was she a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family, but became that to so many others. Dot cared for everyone and knew just how to make those that visited seem loved and welcomed.
Pallbearers will be Kimberly McMillan, Lynn Nash, Greg Clark, Michael Miller, Gibb Tannehill and Tommy Nelson.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Regina Harrell, Dr. Taiwo Akinwole, Dr. Jeff Curtis, Dr. Sumathi Puttu, Dr. Ramesh Peramsetty, Gentiva Home Health and Hospice of West Alabama.
