PALMETTO – Dorothy Jean Pogue, age 74, of Palmetto, died May 19, 2017, at home. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Mt. Olivet "Beaver Dam" Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bobbye Hagler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Sarah Fife Shirley; brothers, Donald Shirley, Howard Shirley, Dudley Shirley and Danny Ray Shirley; her husband, Ronnie Pogue; her daughter, Tammy Smith and a great-grandchild, Austin Taylor.
Survivors include her siblings, Powell Shirley, Donnell Shirley, Edward Shirley and Jane Holman; grandchildren, Shannon Smith (Brad Lann), Jeremy Taylor (Jessica) and Ashley Spears (Kevin); and great-grandchildren, Jayla Mackenzie Taylor, Landen Taylor and Luke Bryan Taylor.
Dorothy was born December 21, 1942 in Gordo, Alabama. She was a retired RN and also a beautician. She was a member of the Unity Grove United Methodist Church and well known resident of the Palmetto community.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Holman, Tony Shirley, Thomas Taylor, Josh Holman, Drew Shirley, Lloyd Shirley, Timmy Shirley, Peyton Watkins, Jamie Davidson and Greg Shirley.
