Obituary

ECHOLA | Dorothy Crawford Sullivan, age 93, of Echola, died July 24, 2015, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2015, at Dunn's Creek Baptist Church in Echola with Bro. Max Stripling and Bro. George Shaddix officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Mrs. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Sullivan; parents, Kin and Lizzie Hannah Crawford; siblings, Calvin Crawford and Evelyn Nevin; and granddaughter, Rachel Sullivan.Survivors include her sons, Jerome Sullivan (Gwen) of Gordo and Ricky Sullivan (Renae) of Northport; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.Mrs. Dorothy, a graduate of the University of Alabama, taught in the Tuscaloosa County school system for 42 years. She started teaching at Echola before teaching at Brownville, Montgomery, Gorgas, and Ettica. She retired from her final teaching assignment at Walker Elementary School.A life member of Dunn's Creek Baptist Church in Echola, Mrs. Dorothy took great pride in helping establish the perpetual care account for the three cemeteries at Dunn's Creek. It was her passion to manage the account and oversee the upkeep of the cemeteries at the church. Pallbearers will be Brett Bridges, Brad Sullivan, Jesse Colburn, Jerry Clark, Tim Cook, Larry Lohr, Danny Crawford and Kevin Hancock. Honorary pallbearers will be Janet Neal, Leslie Cobb, LaPortia Taylor, Leona Carroll, Denise Trull, Peggy and Ferrell Noland, Lenora Holin, Will Cooper and the nurses and staff of Hospice of West Alabama.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dunn's Creek Church Cemetery Fund. Donations can be sent to Dunn's Creek Cemetery Fund in care of Frances Brown, 17477 Brown's Dairy Road, Elrod, AL 35458. -
