Obituary

REFORM Douglas Leon Herd, age 61, of Reform, died December 8, 2013, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Reform First Baptist Church with Rev. Brannon Pinion and Rev. Tim Meherg officiating. Burial was following the service in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform handled arrangements. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Jones Herd; and his father, Al Herd.Survivors are his daughter, Misty Herd Jaynes (Bert); his son Jeremy Herd (Lindsey); his mother, Alene Herd; his grandchildren, Baylee, Sadee, and Kam; and his cousin, Travis "Bug" Bone.Doug was born April 10, 1952, in Tuscaloosa County and was a lifelong resident of Reform. He was a member of Reform First Baptist Church and made a living by operating The Waysider Flower Shop for over 35 years. Doug always had a smile and a joke for everyone he met. Although he was diagnosed with leukemia, he never quit fighting until the end and it never changed his positive outlook. Doug had a passion for fishing and the feel of riding down the river at daylight. He was an amazing father and loved his grand-kids more than life itself. Doug will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Pallbearers were Jerome O'Bryant, Jason Cooper, Kevin Cooper, Mark Cooper, Jeff Criswell, Karl Vail, Mike Perrigin, and Jerry Lowe.Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John DuBay and the DCH Cancer Center Employees, DCH 2nd Floor Oncology Unit, Dr. John Brandon and staff, Pickens County BassMasters, and his special friends, Ronnie and Faye Dudley, Cindy Sullivan, Sandy Cooper, and Terry Keasler
