He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Willie McGarity, Mamie Gober McGarity, David Spencer and Ruth Wilson Spencer; niece, Heather Belk and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins he loved dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Elisa "Lisa" Hall McGarity; sons, William D. McGarity (Brandi) of Meridian, MS and John McGarity of Columbus, MS; daughter, Zoey McGarity of Reform, AL; three beautiful granddaughters, Gracie Jo Dearman, Maelie McGarity and Kylie McGarity, all of Meridian, MS; brother, Donnie McGarity (Tammy); sisters, Marcia McGarity and Kathy Belk (Terry); special niece, Rachel Adams and family, Eric, Gracie and Charlie; special niece, "Sweet Pea" Jessica Marie McGarity; special nephew, Trevor McGarity; a number of other nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
Dwight was born on May 12, 1964 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late William Donald McGarity and Peggy Spencer McGarity.  He was a proud resident of Reform, Alabama but missed his childhood residence of Samantha, Alabama.  He was a 1982 graduate of Pickens County High School.  Family was very important to him, and he loved being with his family.
Dwight was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Reform.  He believed it was very important to gather with fellow believers.  He was a RA director for many years while attending Arbor Springs Baptist Church.  He also served with Polly Kyles providing Bible services for residents at Reform Nursing Home, now Arbor Woods.
He was a retired United States Marine and strongly believed "Once a Marine, always a Marine."  He was active in honoring his heritage as a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans, John Herbert Kelly Camp 1980 and a reenactor with the Alasippi Rifles.  Before increased disability from multiple sclerosis halted these activities, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. "War Eagle!"
Honorary Pallbearers are members of John Herbert Kelly Camp 1980, members of Alasippi Rifles and the 1982 graduating class of Pickens County High School.
Special thanks to Southern Care New Beacon Hospice doctors and nurses, UAB Neurology Team, UAB Infectious Disease Team, UAB General Practice Team, Dr. John Rinker, Birmingham VA Hospital, Dr. Grant Strong, Tuscaloosa VA Hospital and special social worker, James Smith and Tuscaloosa VA Hospital, Timmy Sanders, Respite Care.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to John Herbert Kelly Camp 1980, 2417 County Road 37, Reform, AL 35481 or your favorite charity.
