May 20, 1940 – July 14, 2022
Rufus Edward Spain, age 82, of Aliceville, AL passed away July 14, 2022 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Dogwood Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Minor and Rev. Carson McSherdon officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at Dogwood Chapel, 200 5th Street NE in Aliceville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joe Thomas Spain.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Grammer Spain; daughter, LaDonna Spain Dozier and husband, Anthony; granddaughter, Kaleigh Lucas (Mitchell); great-grandson, Everette Lucas; sister-in-law, Shirley Spain and nieces, Tiffany Phillips and Lenae Simpson.
Rev. Spain was born May 20, 1940 in the Sapps community of Pickens County, Alabama to the late Joe Rufus Spain and Mary Irene Goodson Spain. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserves and a Minister of the Gospel serving at Oasis Fellowship and also as an Evangelist. The ministry of evangelist Edward Spain spans more than six decades, and by the grace of God, he has preached hundreds of evangelistic meetings across the United States, Canada, and other countries of the world. Many of his meetings have lasted for two, three, four, and upward to five weeks. His outreach ministry has gone into 47 countries around the globe. He has been the guest speaker at numerous camp meetings, conferences, and conventions throughout the nation. He held meetings in Haiti for five consecutive years. (1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984) He helped to train hundreds of native ministers during that time. He has recorded over 100 hours of ministry on CD and, DVD's. He has over 135 messages in print. He has pastored churches in Alabama, Florida, and Texas. His outreach ministry has been aired on the internet, daily radio, weekly television, and shortwave radio in numerous countries around the world. His heavenly Father called him into the ministry on October 12, 1960, and the greatest joy of his life has been the harvesting of souls that have come to know the Lord Jesus Christ.
Edward Spain was called home to his reward on July 14, 2022.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" 2 Timothy 4:7. Pallbearers will be Ricky Luker, Mitchell Lucas, Gary Jones, William Sutton, Anthony Dozier and Tony Christian. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Julia Boothe, Richard Knox, Hershel Crossman, David Spain, and Terry Parker.
