Eileen Grace Platzke Will, 94, formerly of Lexington, widow of Brad Will passed away Monday, July 12, 2021 at Aliceville Manor Nursing Home, Aliceville, Alabama. She was born May 29, 1927 in Evanston, Illinois to the late Walter and Erna Sommer Platzke.
Eileen graduated from high school at Concordia College Chicago (now university), River Park, Illinois in 1945, and earned a B.S. from Albion College, Albion, Michigan in 1949.Eileen worked as a high school economics teacher until she and her husband Brad started their family in 1953. After the children were grown, she returned to the work force as a dietician at Berlin Memorial Hospital, Berlin Wisconsin, and then for more than 15 years as Food Service Director at Scott County Schools, Georgetown, Kentucky. An avid traveler, over the decades she and Brad traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. She was an accomplished organist and pianist, as well as an excellent needlewoman. Her quilt and needlepoint work, as well as intricate knitted fair isle sweaters and argyle socks, are cherished by those she gifted them to.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Randall Will, brothers, Lloyd and Ronald Platzke.
Eileen will be remembered by two daughters, Catherine (Bob) Adkinson, Carrollton, Alabama and Cheryl Kastanowski, Lexington, grandchildren, Ryan (Megan) Will, Austin, Texas, Stephen Will, Lexington, and Christopher Will, Virginia, Sarah (Mark) Woods, Berea, Samuel Kastanowski, Avondale, AZ, and Thomas Kastanowski, Lexington, and 3 great grandchildren.
A private interment will be at Lexington Cemetery on Friday, July 16, 2021. Services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Faith Lutheran Church, Lexington, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers family has requested donations to the Faith Lutheran Church Memory Garden, 1000 Tates Creek Rd Lexington, KY 40502 or Amedisys Hospice, 1300 McFarland Blvd NE Suite 340, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35406. Friends and family are encouraged to leave messages of condolence and share memories on Eileen's page.
