GORDO | Elise Housel, age 91, of Gordo, died June 28, 2015, at home surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Gordo First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron McKay and John Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Housel; son, Ralph Housel, Jr.; her parents; and brother, Louie Price.
Survivors include her daughters, Marion Housel of Fernandina Beach, Fla. and Beth Mitchell (Jim) of Gordo; grandson, Daniel Mitchell of Gordo; sister, Frances Burkhalter of Gordo; niece, Kathy Baldwin (Bill and daughter, Ellie) of Cochran, Ga.; nephew, Scott Burkhalter (Jennifer) of Corning. N.Y.; several nieces; nephews; cousins; and her cat, Lucky.
Elise was born January 9, 1924 in Gordo, Alabama to the late George L. Price and Kathryn Elizabeth Cummins Price. She married Ralph Housel after World War II and celebrated their 50th anniversary prior to his death. She was a member of Gordo First United Methodist Church and spent 51 years working at First National Bank (formerly Bank of Gordo). Elise spent her last months at home cared for by her daughters, sister, grandson, Jane Ammons, and Hospice of West Alabama.
Pallbearers will be Ken Bailey, Chad Bailey, David Housel, Raymond Housel, Mark Housel, Matt Housel, Paul Housel, Duane Mitchell and Newell Moss.
Honorary pallbearers are Jane Ammons, Ann Bridges, Lisa Camp, Mary Lou Spain, Tenza Housel, Lorine Mitchell, current and past employees of First National Bank of Central Alabama, and employees of West Alabama Bank.
