Obituary

REFORM - SFC Elliott Lee ""Sonny"" McDaniel, US Army Retired, age 71, of Reform, Ala., died February 28, 2018 at Pickens County Medical Center. Services will be 3:00 p.m. today, March 2, 2018, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Smith and Rev. Glen Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in Arbor Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be immediately following service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, James McCrary; and sister-in-law, Hazel Horne.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janie McCrary McDaniel; daughter, Shannon Adams; son, Shane McDaniel (Kristin); sisters, Brenda McDaniel, Sheila McDaniel and Melanie Strawn (Larry); brother, Matthew McDaniel; grandchildren, Elijah McDaniel, Alisha McDaniel, Jason Adams and Jackson McDaniel; great-grandchild, Ryder McDaniel; mother-in-law, Mary Estelle McCrary; brothers-in-law, Jim McCrary and Fred Horne; and several nieces and nephews.
Sonny was born September 19, 1946 in Reform, Alabama to the late Lonnie McDaniel and Odelle Elliott McDaniel. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 24 years and he was a Vietnam veteran, receiving the Purple Heart. After his Army career, he worked at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center and, while working there, he went back to school and received his LPN license.
He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Sonny and Janie married July 11, 1967 and just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He loved his family, working in his garden, cooking and especially trying new recipes. Although he had health issues for several years, he never gave up. Sonny will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jason Adams, Jimmy McDaniel, Henry Bonner, Allen McDaniel, Jerry Pike, Daniel McCafferty, Perry McDaniel and Dillion Mills.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Jason Dunn, Terry Underwood, Glen Kyles, staff of Pickens County Primary Care and Fresenius Dialysis Center.
