GORDO – Elsie Olene "Tootsie" Hicks, age 77, died April 7, 2017 at her residence. Services will be 3 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2017 at Sand Springs Methodist Church with Rev. Jackie Adcox, Rev. Warren Brown and Rev. Leonard Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight, Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Hayes Hicks, Sr., her parents, sisters, Annie Lou Rager and Dean Pearson; brothers, Coleman, Robert Julian, Ed, Gene, Bobby Joe and Roger Miller.
Survivors include her daughter, Mickie Hicks Hall (Newman); son, Gerald Hicks, Jr. (Sissy); brothers, Charles Miller (Joyce), Garnett Miller (Donna); grandchildren, Hayes Hicks (Savanah), Hannah Hawthorne (David), Laura Williamson (Terence), Bradley Belcher (Nicole) and Ashley Lee (Adam); great-grandchildren, Lila Belcher, Edy Hicks, Eli Moss, Sophia Hicks, Tristan Williamson, Jackson Hawthorne and Khloe Keasler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hicks was born September 21, 1939 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Revis Lee Miller and Bessie Lou Elmore Miller. She was a member of Sand Springs Methodist Church, a former employee of Westinghouse with 20 years of service and a retired caregiver with 28-30 years of service.
Elsie was a loving wife, mother, MawMaw, MeMe, GiGi, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Terence Williamson, Hayes Hicks, James Miller, David Hawthorne, Don Pearson, Dakota Jennings, Tristan Williamson and Jackson Hawthorne.
Honorary pallbearers are employees of Aspire Physical Recovery Center of West Alabama, Amedisys Home Health and Hospice, caregiver, Cherry Luna, nurses, Nickie Rivas and Abby Brown and West Alabama Dance.
