NORTHPORT | Ernesteen Hitt Hammond, age 93, of Northport, formerly of Reform, died February 23, 2015, at Brookdale Place in Northport, Ala. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2015, at Unity Grove United Methodist Church in Palmetto, with Rev. Bobbye Jean Hagler and Rev. Tim Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hammond; son, Dale Hammond; parents; and brother, A.D. Hitt and wife, Nettie Belle Hitt.Survivors include daughter-in-law, Edith Hammond; sons, David Hammond (Sue) and Freddie Hammond (Cecilia); ten grandchildren, Karen Lowery, April Dale Kyles (Eddie), Leah Pike (Chris), Hawkins Hammond, Rebekah Martin (Wil), Angela Connell (Andrew), Jared Hammond, Megan Hammond, Caitlin Hammond, and Ethan Hammond; three great-grandchildren, April LeAnn Shackleford (Justin), Dale Kyles (Brittany), and Cole Kyles (Hannah); five great-great-grandchildren, Joshua Pike, Mackenzie Pike, Anthony Martin, Eloise Kyles, and Julia Bell Martin; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hammond was born September 17, 1921, in Gordo, Ala., to the late Ernest Hitt and Bessie Thornton Hitt. She was a retired employee at Westinghouse with over 30 years of service and a well-known resident of Pickens County. Ernesteen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be dearly missed. Pallbearers will be Ethan Hammond, Jared Hammond, Steve Davis, Donald Babb, Bobby Babb, and Sonny Boler. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund, 6511 County Rd. 3, Reform, AL 35481.
