ALICEVILLE - Flora Mae Gibson, age 93, of Aliceville, Ala., died September 25, 2017, at Aliceville Manor Nursing Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2017, at Garden Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Ezelle and Rev. Raymond Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be today, September 28, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Dogwood Chapel, 200 5th St., NE, Aliceville, AL 35442. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Gibson; parents; granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Gibson; great-grandson; J. R. Gibson, brothers, Elbert Powers, Cass Powers and Bake Powers; and sisters, Mabel Powers, Virginia Heath and Helen Parks.
Survivors include her sons, Elton Gibson (Nell), Larry Gibson, Sr. (Lynn), Joel Dwight "Ike" Gibson (Tammy), Curtis Gibson (Pam) and Kenneth Gibson (Teresa); sisters, June Brinkley, Dot Pollard and Grey Grinstead; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Flora Mae was born March 12, 1924 in Chilhowie, Virginia to the late Lee Powers and Carrie Dollar Powers. She was a member of Garden Baptist Church, a retired employee of Westinghouse and a longtime resident of the Aliceville area.
Pallbearers will be Larry Gibson, Jr., Chris Gibson, Brad Gibson, Ryan Gibson, Cory Gibson, Clarke Gibson, Cole Gibson, Clay Gibson and Martin Sanders.
Honorary pallbearers are the deacons and members of Garden Baptist Church, Dr. James Parker, staff of Aliceville Manor Nursing Home, Hospice of West Alabama and special friends, Elizabeth Kelley and Dot Barrentine.
