Flora Frances Butters Akin, age 93, of Mobile, AL died June 19, 2022 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel in Reform with Bro. Jimmy Pritchett and Andy Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 pm Friday, June 24, 2022 at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Priscilla Darlene Akin; her husband of 68 years, Osweld Eugene Akin; her parents; brothers, Thomas F. Butters, Jr. and Hershell Butters, Sr.; nephew, Hershell "Johnny" Butters, Jr. and two sons-in-law, George Semmie Free and Joseph Koch.
Survivors include her three daughters, Dierdre A. Free of Gordo; Franciene Paulette Akin of Mobile and Emily Janette Akin-Koch of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Elaine Akin; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Frances was born September 1, 1928 in Birmingham, AL to the late Thomas F. Butters, Sr. and Flora Bell Mosley Butters. She became a Christian in February 1957 at Chickasaw First Baptist Church. Her Mission in life was to be a housewife and raise her children. She served as a nursery worker at various churches in Mobile, AL and St. Louis. MO.
Frances also enjoyed attending Southern Gospel concerts and became friends with the Lester Family in 1968. They have remained friends through four generations up to the present day.
