Garnett
Miller
September 14, 1951 – July 30, 2024
James Garnett Elmore Miller, age 72, of Gordo, AL passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on July 30, 2024 at UAB in Birmingham, Alabama. He fought a long battle with lung cancer. He was a fighter and the strongest man we knew! Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in Sand Springs Methodist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will follow the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Christian Lance Miller; brothers, Ed, Gene, Bobby Joe, Charles and Roger Dale; sisters, Dean Pearson, Anna Lou Rager and Elsie Hicks and his "big" dog, Bear.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Donna Miller; daughters, Beth Venter (John) and Tina Kreider (Jeremy); son, James Miller (Mandi); ten grandchildren, Devin Galbreath, Dakota Jennings, Austin Galbreath, Haley Patrick (Paul), Micaela Hall (Austyn), Jacob Jennings (Katie), Hunter Galbreath, Addison Miller, Lance Miller and Will Kreider; four great-grandchildren, Ivey, Ava, Rylan and Maggie; a number of nieces and nephews and the one he loved the most, his best "small" dog, Dixie.
Garnett was born September 14, 1951 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Revis Lee Miller and Bessie Elmore Miller. He served in the U. S. National Guard for 17 years and was the manager at Big "B" Drugs for 13 years. After leaving, he opened his own business, Gordo Feed & Seed for 20 years. He met many people over the years and he loved when all his "old man" friends would sit, talk mess and drink coffee. A lot of them have passed on, so imagine the mess they're talking now! The last few years he has enjoyed gardening, watching the great-grands and his flowers. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends for his crazy jokes and out pouring help and love for everyone.
Pallbearers will be Paul Patrick, Gerald Hicks, Jeremy Kreider, Hayes Hicks, Newman Hall, Austyn Hall and Will Kreider.
Honorary Pallbearers are Warren Brown, MICU of UAB, Spain Comfort Care, and his doctors and nurses at Kirkland Clinic.
Words cannot express the appreciation felt for the loving care provided by Dr. Maya Khalil, Dr. Spencer and Dr. Webber.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to St. Jude Children's Hospital Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
