George Wilson Wharton, Jr., age 79, of Ethelsville, AL passed away January 10, 2023 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Boothe officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following the service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Wilson Wharton, Sr. and Edith Wright Wharton Elmore and sister, Peggy Perrigin.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Boothe Wharton of Ethelsville; son, Brian Wharton and wife, Cricket of Ethelsville; two grandsons, Daniel Wharton of Hattiesburg, MS and Isaac Wharton of Ethelsville; brother, Johnny Wharton of Aliceville; sister, Brenda Peeks (Jerry) of Millport and a number of nieces and nephews.
George was born August 18, 1943 in Cuba, Alabama. He was a retired employee of Weyerhaeuser and a veteran of the United States Navy. George was a member of Reform First Baptist Church and the Reform Volunteer Fire Department.
