January 16, 1941 – December 19, 2023
Geraldine "Gerry" Bishop McCool, age 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 19th, 2023 surrounded by her family. She passed away peacefully at her home in the Palmetto community of Pickens County, Alabama. A graveside service will be held at Unity Grove Lower Cemetery in Palmetto on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Tim Holder officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Unity Grove Fellowship Hall.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, John Brandon McCool, Sr; her parents and one brother, Gene Edward Bishop.
Survivors include her daughter, Melanie McCool McDaniel (Chap) of Reform, AL; her son, John Brandon McCool, Jr. (Kristina) of Madison, MS; two dear sisters, Dot Bishop Boothe and Anne Bishop Smith; three grandchildren, Cade Michael McCool, Brandon Jacob McCool (Kayla) and John Daniel McCool and a host of dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Gerry was born January 16, 1941 in the Coalfire community of Pickens County, Alabama, the second child to George Ellison "Bunny" Bishop and Mattie Will Davidson Bishop. She married Brandon, the love of her life, on June 5, 1959 in Coalfire, Alabama. They built their home and raised their children on the family farm in the Palmetto Community, where they remained lifelong residents. Gerry was a graduate of Pickens County High School and Shelton State Technical College. She worked as office manager for Seton Home Health Care and retired in 1993 to care for her first grandson, Cade.
Gerry loved and served the Lord. She was a long-time member of Kennedy Baptist Church, and was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a member of the Pickens County Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Our heartache here on earth is made easier knowing that she is no longer suffering, and we are rejoicing with the promise that she is now with Jesus and her loved ones who have gone before her.
Pallbearers include her 3 grandsons, Cade, Brandon, Daniel, Mike Orr and nephews, Jay Boothe, George Bishop, and Sam Smith.
Honorary pallbearers include her physician and family friend, Dr. Scott Fulgham, the Palmetto Volunteer Fire Department, West Alabama Hospice, Heather Pugh, JJ and Leiann McCrackin, and devoted caregiver, Sheresa Woods.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Palmetto Community Center or the Palmetto Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Teresa Mordecai, P.O. Box 582, Reform, AL 35481.
