Gewin Smith Jr, age 67 of Tuscaloosa, AL passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday December 16, 2021 at Skelton Funeral Home chapel in Reform, AL with Rev. Ray Hallman officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Skelton Funeral Home from 6-8 P.M.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Franklin Smith; brother in law, Carl Spence; sister in law, Jamelle Sutton; father in law, Bill Sutton; and mother in law, Mary Sutton.
Gewin is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy Sutton Smith; son, Brett Lawson Smith (Catherine); step sons, Tod Jason Bragg and Mark Wesley Bragg; sisters, Jo Ann Spence, Ruby Spence (Wayne) and Linda Crowson (Howard); sister in law, Frances McCool (Randy); brother in law, Jerry Sutton; two step grandchildren, Mckenzie Barbee and Tylor Bragg; special family, Gentry and Kimber Williams, Saylor and Sweden Williams; and many special nieces and nephews.
Gewin was born Thursday, December 17, 1953 in Tuscaloosa to the late Gewin Washington Smith Sr and Mabelle Knoblauch Smith. He was a retired quality technician from BF Goodrich with 32 years of service, attended Holt High School, Shelton State, and was a member of Englewood Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Alabama football, and watching the Braves. Gewin also enjoyed going to car and trade shows, coaching little league baseball at Hillcrest and Taylorville, and traveling on cruises with his wife.
Honorary Pallbearers will be J.C. Hoggle, Glendon Junkin, Ronnie Ballard, Alex Collier, Holt High School Football Team of 1971, and his friends at BF Goodrich.
