Obituary

Virginia Lee "Ginny" Huffman Cox, age 71, of Hoover, AL passed away July 14, 2024 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN after a hard-fought illness. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Carrollton City Cemetery with Rev. Penny Ford officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.
Ginny is preceded in death by her father, Albert Lindsey Huffman; father-in-law, Clayton C. "Booty" Cox, Jr; mother-in-law, Marie Shaw Cox and brother-in-law, Stephen Durel.
Ginny is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, David Shaw Cox; mother, Hazel Wood Huffman; sons, Brian Lindsey Cox and Steven Shaw Cox (Melissa); sister, Diane Gregorie; grandchildren, Caroline Lindsey Cox, Clara Marie Cox and Charlie Shaw Cox; sister-in-law, Carolyn Durel; brothers-in-law, Mike Cox (Amy) and Keith "Booty" Cox and her many nieces and nephews.
Ginny was born December 9, 1952 in Carrollton, Alabama to Hazel Marie Wood Huffman (Providence, RI) and the late Albert Lindsey Huffman (Carrollton, AL).  She was born in her grandparent's living room during a time when there was no medical facility in Pickens County.  Being part of a military family, she grew up in several different cities in Rhode Island, Florida and Texas.  In 1967, the Huffman family moved back to Carrollton where she met her future husband, David in their 9th grade home room class at Carrollton High School.  Ginny graduated from Carrollton High School in 1970, graduated from the University of Alabama in 1975 and attended graduate school at UAB.  Ginny worked several years teaching in local school before "retiring" and staying at home raising her two sons full time.  She was an active supporter of the Hoover City schools serving several years as a PTA officer and two years as Uniform Manager with the Hoover High School Band.  Ginny took great pride in taking care of others and did so most of her life.  She took care of her husband, children and eventually caring for her mother.  Ginny had an infinite love of her grandchildren and "Mimi" loved being with them more than anything else.  Ginny was a happy person with an infectious smile and a keen sense of humor.
The Cox family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at UT Medical Center who went above and beyond to ensure Ginny was comfortable in her final hours.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider making a donation to either the Carrollton Methodist Church, P.O. Box 145, Carrollton, AL 35447 or the Big Oak Ranch, 250 Jake Mintz Road, Gadsden, AL 35905.
