Obituary

REFORM | Girlie Hill Oglesby, age 89, of Reform, died May 1, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Fondren and Rev. Ricky Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery in Carrollton with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday night at the home of Mr. Oglesby and also after the service on Sunday at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lou Harcrow Oglesby and his parents.Survivors include his daughters, Judy Diane Barnes (Bob) and Cherry Austell (Mark), both of Reform, Ala.; brother, Freddie Oglesby (Brenda) of McShan, Ala.; grandchildren, Brett Simpson (April), Brooke Rivera (Rudy), Jacob Austell (fiancée Jessica Mullins) and Chase Austell (fiancée Kellie Repasky); step-grandchild, Robbie Barnes; great-grandchildren, Naaman, Kyra, Lauren, Kelsie and Colin; and special nieces and nephews. Mr. Oglesby was born October 23, 1924 in Columbus, Mississippi to the late Richard Oglesby and Estelle Perrigin Oglesby. He was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 44 years. Girlie was a retired employee of McShan Lumber Company and a veteran of U.S. Army. He devoted the last years of his life as caregiver to his loving wife. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of Cross Roads Baptist Church, employees of Hospice of West Alabama, caregivers, Kathy Bush and Bernita Latham. Thank you to his hospice nurse, Lisa Camp for her special care.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Rd., Tuscaloosa, AL 35404 or Gideons International, Pickens Co.
