TUSCALOOSA | Gladys Johns Newell, age 93, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., died December 21, 2015, at her residence. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 24, 2015, at Sunset Memorial Park with her son, Peter Newell, officiating and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph Ozelle Newell; son, Ronald Newell; granddaughter, Tonya Renee Griffin; sisters, Juanita Owens and Wynelle Womble; and brother, Raymond Johns.Survivors include her son, Peter Newell (Vicki); daughters, Gayle Moussa and Debbie McSweeney (Michael); daughter-in-law, Julie Gail Newell; grandchildren, Kenneth Griffin (Di), Kimberly Sanders (Roddy), Tina Reetz (Robert), Aubrey Corcoran (Bryan), Rachel Webb, Ian Anderson (Jenny), Alexis Robinson and Nicole Overby (Brian); 19 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.Gladys was born January 23, 1922 in Tarpin Springs, Florida to the late Johnny Johns and Frances Demerritt Johns. Mrs. Newell was retired from the medical field and was a member of the Church of God. A memorial service will be held in Florida at a later date.
