Obituary

GORDO | Mildred Hollingsworth, age 96, of Gordo, died September 6, 2015, at Heritage Health Care. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hershel Owen and Rev. Scott McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bryant ""Bill"" Hollingsworth; her beloved daughter, Janice Marie Hollingsworth Mullins; her parents; brothers, Curtis, Maurice and Cecil Lowe; sister, Leona Lowe Lindsey; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Lowe.Survivors include her son, James William ""Jimmy"" Hollingsworth (Jean Koon) of Advance, N.C.; son-in-law, Bill Mullins of Pell City, Ala.; brother, Gilbert Lowe (Virginia) of Columbus, Miss.; sisters-in-law, Corrine Lowe of Gordo, Ala. and JoAnn Lowe of Brandon, Miss.; grandchildren, Traci Marie Mullins of Pell City, Ala., Christy Rogers (Kevin) of Oxford, Ala.., Dr. Kathy Hedrick (David) of Advance, N.C. and Kim Byrd (Tony) of Panama City, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Will Gossett, Caroline Rogers, Chance Hollingsworth, Victoria Prescott, Holyn, Will and Anna Hedrick; and great-great-grandchildren, Madison Outlaw and Cayden Hollingsworth; and two nieces and six nephews. Mildred was born in Reform, Alabama on November 15, 1918 to the late Clyde C. Lowe and Lizzie Leona Williams Lowe. She graduated from Pickens County High School in 1936 and was a graduate of Bryce Hospital School of Nursing with an RN degree and was named Most Outstanding Student in her graduating class. She worked at Druid City Hospital in the early 1950's and later served as a public health nurse in Pickens County for 19 ½ years.Mildred married Bill Hollingsworth on July 20, 1940 and cherished her years as a wife and mother. She was an active member of Gordo First Baptist Church for many years and became a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in her later years. After her retirement, she enjoyed art and creative writing classes at Shelton State.Pallbearers will be Frank Elmore, Jack Fair, Jeff Campbell, Duane Mitchell, Donald Pritchett and Gaines House.Honorary pallbearers are Olan Waldrop, Lorene Mitchell, Mary Parham, June Elmore, Eddie Martin, Elinor Goodson, and staff of Amedisys Home Health, the staff of Heritage Health Care and Rehab, Cindy Sullivan and the many faithful and patient sitters who allowed Mildred to live at home as long as possible, Shirley Powell, Rhonda Pate, Callen McHenry, Linda Windham, Gordo Piggly Wiggly employees, Meals on Wheels personnel, Dr. John Brandson, Dr. Scott Fulgham, and a special thank you to Frank and June Elmore.In lieu of flowers, it was Mildred's wish that donations me made to one's church or charity of choice.
