REFORM | Harry Kent Simpson, age 94, of Reform, died August 21, 2014, at Pickens County Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Stansel Baptist Church with Dr. P. Joe Whitt and Rev. Joey Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and immediately following the service at the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruby Ryan and Joan Caston; brother, J. T. Simpson, Jr.; grandson, Alan McCafferty; and daughter-in-law, Susan Wright Simpson.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Rosa Findley Simpson of Reform, Ala.; daughters, Rachel S. Lee (Donald) of Troy, Ala. and Pam S. McCafferty (Dale) of Spanish Fort, Ala.; sons, Ken Simpson and Randy Simpson (Susan), both of Reform, Ala.; sister, Jane Oliver of Reform, Ala.; brother, Ben Simpson (Carole) of Reform, Ala.; nine grandchildren, Julie Smitherman (Jason), Jennifer Deloney (John), Amy Sanders (Jerome), Erin Shirley (Kevin), Josh Simpson (Kimberly), Donna Chastain (Jason), Ethan Simpson, Joy Pate (Zack) and Elliott Simpson; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Simpson was born September 7, 1919 in the Stansel Community to the late John T. Simpson and Gertrude Jennings Simpson. He was a member and deacon at Stansel Baptist Church, a retired merchant and mechanic, a U.S. Army veteran and a lifelong resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of Stansel Baptist Church and Men's Sunday School Class.
