GORDO | Harry Truman Vails, Sr., age 70, of Gordo, died July 27, 2015, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack House officiating. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Carl Vails.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Champion Vails of Gordo, Ala.; sons, Harry Vails (Dana) of Gordo, Ala. and Frank Vails of Northport, Ala.; sisters, Gaybe Allen (James) and Sandra Cantrell of Vernon, Ala. and Rachel Ponds (James) of Ethelsville, Ala.; brother, Derwin Vails of Hightogy, Ala.; and three grandsons, Tyler Vails, Cade Vails, and Davis Vails of Gordo, Ala.
Truman was born on June 13, 1945 in the Bethlehem community of Pickens County, Ala. to the late Buster Brown Vails and Fannie Mae Woods Vail. He graduated from Pickens County High School in 1964. He worked at Westinghouse for 16 years, Peco Farms for five years and Phifer Incorporated for 12 years in addition to cattle, chicken and vegetable farming. His hobbies included watching his grandsons play baseball, hunting and most of all fishing.
Pallbearers will be his three grandsons, Tyler, Cade and Davis and also, James Allen, Dwain Harris and Jerome Reece.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
