September 22, 1931 – January 27, 2025
Hazel Marie Wood Huffman, age 93 of Carrollton, AL passed away peacefully January 27, 2025 at Northshore Heights Assisted Living in Knoxville, TN. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Carrollton United Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Boothe officiating. Burial will be in Carrollton City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Hazel was born in Providence, Rhode Island on September 22, 1931 to the late Walter Wood and Margaret Ruth Lamphere Wood. On February 16, 1952 she married the love of her life, Albert Lindsey Huffman. Being a Navy family, they relocated several times during their life living in Rhode Island, Florida and Texas. When Al finally retired from the military in 1966, he and Hazel moved their family to Carrollton where they lived for the remainder of their lives.
Hazel was an outgoing person who never met anyone she didn't like. She was well known for her keen sense of humor, her distinctive "Yankee" accent and her caring for others. She was a member of Carrollton United Methodist Church and had a great love for the Lord. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and best friend to many.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 50 years, Al Huffman; her daughter, Ginny Cox; her sisters, Florence Barchi, Chestina Pulsifer, Ruth Menders and Hazel's twin sister, Helen Andrade and her brothers, Eugene Wood, Walter Wood, George Wood and Harold Wood.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane Gregoire; her grand- children, Lorie Comfort, Tracy Phillips, Brian Cox, Justin Gregoire and Steven Cox; great-grandchildren, Cati Brewer, Matt Comfort, Maddie Phillips, Aiden Phillips, Riley Phillips, Macy Phillips, Chase Gregoire, Jaxson Gregoire, Caroline Cox, Clara Cox and Charlie Cox; great-great grandchildren, Brianna Brewer and Sully Comfort; sister-in-law, Betty Huffman; son-in-law, David Cox and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Northshore Heights Assisted Living and Smoky Mountain Hospice for giving Hazel their compassion and the best care possible in her last days.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made for Hazel to Carrollton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 145, Carrollton, AL 35447 or to the charity of your choice.
