Obituary

Helen Ruth Poole Phillips Baines passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on June 22, 2017 in Auburn, Alabama. Born in Pickens County, Alabama on September 24, 1925.

She was preceded in death by her parents William V. and Ruby Poole, six sisters and four brothers. Helen was also preceded in death by her first husband in 1965, Lawrence Phillips, Sr. and her second husband in 2012, M. D. Baines.

She is survived by two sons, Lawrence Phillips, Jr. (Kay) and Keith Phillips (Donna), two step-daughters, Rhonda Elliot (Charlie) and Gayle Heiden (Rick), ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a multitude of devoted family and friends.

Helen raised her boys in Pinson, Alabama, moving to Greensboro after her second marriage. In 2012 she moved to Auburn, Alabama where she enjoyed spending time with her family and attending Auburn sporting events. She was an avid Auburn fan. Helen loved her Lord Jesus Christ. She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and the Hope Sunday School Class.

Helen will be remembered as a wonderful Southern lady, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was always ready for an adventure and life was sweeter because she loved you. She loved us all and we loved her.

The family recognizes the compassionate care of Compassus Hospice over the last month.

Funeral services will be held at Dogwood Chapel, Aliceville, Alabama, Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 2:00 PM, with visitation from 1:00 till 2:00.

The family respectfully requests no flowers. Donations in her memory can be made to Parkway Baptist Church, 766 East University Drive, Auburn, Alabama 36830.
