Obituary

REFORM | Helen McDaniel Spain, age 73, of Reform, died May 10, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joey Lucas and Rev. Mike Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight, Sunday, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephews, William Ross McDaniel and Richard McDaniel.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Spain of Reform; her son Danny Spain of Reform; her granddaughter, Shannon Gann (Jonathan) of Reform; her great-grandsons, Daniel Gann and Hayden Gann; her great-granddaughter, Kilbie Gann; her step grandson, Jim Curtis and her step granddaughter, Kim Martin (Jeremy), all of Reform; her sister, Maurine Kyles (Vic) of Northport; her brother Ray McDaniel (Faye) of Reform; her nephew Tony McDaniel (Kathy) of Carrollton; her nieces, Jessica Dillard (Luke) of Swansboro, N.C., and Jodi McDaniel, of Tuscaloosa; her special brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Koon (George) of Gordo, Bobbie Joe Huff Spain of Millport, and Floyd ""Pee Wee"" Spain (Bobbie Joe) of Reform; and the mother of her granddaughter, Darlene Spain of Millport.
Helen was born April 12, 1941, in Pickens County, Alabama, to the late Charlie R. McDaniel and Ada Atkins McDaniel. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her whole life was committed to her family and friends. Helen was a lifelong resident of Pickens County, a member of Stansel Baptist Church and a Baptist Center volunteer. She worked for 42 years in management in the garment industry. She was a born leader in the business and could work magic with her sewing skills and sewing machine. After retirement, she did alterations for the public for 12 years. Her greatest joy besides sewing was helping other people. If she knew of a need, she was always there to do everything she could.
Pallbearers will be Tony McDaniel, Jim Curtis, Ben Simpson, Robert Earl Carroll, Bruce Lowe, and William Ashmore.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Stansel Baptist Church and community, Lisa Camp, Hospice of West Alabama and staff, Gordon Acker, David Jennings, and Bruce Findley.
