ETHELSVILLE | Hershal Aaron ""Sonny"" Fancher, age 84, of Ethelsville, died June 4, 2015, at Pickens County Medical Center. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2015 at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Trey Kelley and Rev. David Blakney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be Saturday, June 6, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Brownlee Fancher; grandsons, Jonathan ""Joey"" Shaffer, and William Dunn; and four brothers.Survivors include his wife, Martha Jean Fancher, of Ethelsville; daughter, Ann Dunn (James), of Fayette; step daughter, Sherrie Kelley (James Harold), of Reform; step sons, Teddy Elmore, of Ethelsville, and Kenneth Elmore (Diane), of Reform; sisters, Mildred, Willie, Betty, Catherine, and Judy; grandson, James Aaron Shaffer; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Shaffer; 11 step grandchildren; and a number of step great-grandchildren. Sonny was born May 19, 1931 in Bibb County, Alabama to the late Herbert Fancher and Lena Coppinger Fancher. He was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church and the VFW. He was a retired employee of Huyck Felt Company, a United States Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and an avid fisherman. Sonny was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He worked three jobs to provide for his family and during the time he worked at the BP Station in Aliceville, he developed many friendships that lasted his lifetime. He was a caring person who always shared a smile and a kind word.
